How do I configure Outlook 2013/2016 for my UTK Google account?

Before completing the steps to configure you UTK Gmail account in Outlook, you will need to ensure your account is correctly enabled to allow access for Outlook.

 
Step 1: Enable IMAP in your UTK Gmail Account
  1. On your computer, log in to your UTK Gmail account.
  2. In the top right, click Settings Settings.
  3. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  4. In the "IMAP Access" section, select Enable IMAP.
  5. Click Save Changes.
Step 2: Allow Outlook to Access your UTK Gmail Account
  1. Log in to your UTK Gmail account.
  2. Click your account name icon in the upper right corner of the page.
  3. Click the 'My Account' button
  4. Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
  5. Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on.

 

To configure Outlook 2013/2016 for your UTK Gmail account:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click the File tab, and select Accounts Settings, then Account Settings.
  3. Click Add and enter your information as shown below, then click Next:
    Name: Enter Your Name
    Email Address: netid@vols.utk.edu
    Password: your NetID password
  4. Outlook should automatically configure the appropriate IMAP connection settings for your account. The server settings for Gmail are listed below for verification.

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL

  • Server: imap.gmail.com
  • Port: 993
  • Requires SSL:Yes

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires TLS

  • Server: smtp.gmail.com
  • Port: 465 or 587
  • Requires SSL: Yes
  • Requires authentication: Yes
