Faculty and Staff

  • University-owned:
    • Windows: Windows Defender is built into Windows by Microsoft. Malwarebytes is installed automatically for computers in Active Directory; otherwise, it is available from the OIT Software Download site.
    • macOS: Malwarebytes is available from the OIT Software Download site.
  • Personally-owned:
    • Windows: Windows Defender is built into Windows by Microsoft.
    • macOS: Malwarebytes (Free version).

Students

  • Windows: Windows Defender is built into Windows by Microsoft, and as a student, you have access to Malwarebytes.
  • macOS: As a student, you have access to Malwarebytes.

All University of Tennessee students are now eligible for one copy of the standard consumer version of Malwarebytes, provided at no additional cost to the student. Note that the University of Tennessee has no management of nor visibility into these installs, so we will not be able to see anything that is on your computer.  If you need to reinstall Malwarebytes either because you have had to reset your computer or because you got a new computer, you will need to open a ticket with your campus HelpDesk.

Instructions for installing Malwarebytes for Students

Staff, faculty, and students can contact the HelpDesk at 865-974-9900 for assistance installing this software. Additionally, students can bring their computers to the OIT Service Center in the Hodges Library Commons North for assistance.
