What is Vault (or UT Secure Courier)?

Print Friendly and PDF

Vault (or UT Secure Courier) is a secure file transfer application that allows users to easily send large files quickly and securely. Vault is available to all current faculty, staff, and student at the University of Tennessee.

  • To access the Vault application, go to https://vault.utk.edu.
    • For UT personnel, you will need to login to Vault with your UT email address and your NetID password. This email address must be listed in the UT directory at https://ds.utk.edu. Enter your name or NetID in the search field to see your entry.
    • For Non-UT users, you must first complete an External User Registration by entering a valid email address.

The vault.utk.edu service is a secure file staging service which allows uploading and downloading of files via SSL encrypted HTTP. These files are stored on the vault service in an encrypted data store. When a file is "sent" from one user to another, the system sends a pointer to the file recipient which gives them the authorization to download specific files via the same SSL encrypted HTTP mechanism.
